Good ole Bob Ross with his statement hair and happy little clouds. Remember him? He was the PBS painter that graced our screens back in the 90’s. Bob’s clouds and all clouds are such an excellent subject matter. Be it Cumulonimbus, Stratus, or Cirrus I feel clouds hold some fantastic energy and that’s why I am trying to paint them.
However, I am no Bob Ross and painting these suckers is harder than I thought. I’ve tried purple ones and whiteish pink ones, swooping and stacked but I just can’t. I’ve studied clouds in the sky and artists of clouds and I even started seeing them when I closed my eyes. Which is actually very calming and sort of helped me sleep.
Either way, I do not think I was meant to paint realistic clouds at this time in my life. I am though grateful that I revisited our good ole friend Bob Ross. His quotes are so intriguingly simple, his persona so unique, and his hair is right up there with Diana Ross and Howard Stern. I hope to be half that stylish someday. Here are a few of my favorite quotes of his I’d like to reminisce with you:
“We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents.”
“There’s nothing wrong with having a tree as a friend.”
“I think there’s an artist hidden at the bottom of every single one of us.”
Each quote has its own little glimmer of delight and gives me the warm and fuzzies every time I read them. It amazes me that something so simple and sort of child-like can be so relevant at any stage of our game, even decades later for me.
So Bob, if you’re up there looking down I want to say thank you for not only your happy little clouds but your good energy and resonating perspective on life. I’d like to think that there is not just a little artist hidden within each of us but maybe a little Bob Ross too.
